Both tennis and squash string gauges range from 15 (the thickest) to 19 (the thinnest) with half gauges having the letter L after them eg, 16L.
The thinner the string the more playability and spin potential you will receive BUT durability can be a problem. However you could try a durable thinner string which could last long enough for your needs. A thicker string will be much more durable and last longer but with less of the benefits of a thinner string.
Generally a 16 gauge tennis string is a good starting point for the best playability and durablility. And a 17 gauge squash string.
